The Mobility Challenge
While CO2 emissions have generally declined in most areas in Austria, transportation extremely increased in the last twenty years. This particular fact contributes to the reason that Austria will not achieve self determined targets set in the Kyoto Protocol.
Why is that?
Firstly, the number of cars in Austria has significantly increased. Secondly, a car just uses a great deal of energy. For example, a modern, relatively economical car needs as much fuel for 15,000 km as two energy efficient houses need to heat for a whole year.
There is another way!
In Vorarlberg, two thirds of all distances covered are within ten kilometers. The majority of which are even shorter than five. These are ideal distances to be covered by bicycle or foot. Here is where we want to implement our experiment and together with the participants experience new ways of getting around the community.
